Rising Stars September 2019

Harpurhey Retain Rising Stars Trophy

Harpurhey made it a hat-trick of wins in the latest edition of the Rising Stars gala held on September 28th.

The event took place at the Manchester Aquatic Centre with entrants from the Manchester Community Clubs of Broadway, Harpurhey, Wythenshawe, COMAST Hough End, COMAST Academy, Matt Walker Academy for disability swimmers and Raven Moss. The gala gives young swimmers a chance to participate in a competitive environment often for the first time. Swimmers from these galas have now progressed and gone on to compete in the COMAST Non-National gala in July and will be competing in the forthcoming Manchester Snow’Pen to be held in December.

Over 120 swimmers competed in the gala with the individual events including 50m of Freestyle, Breaststroke and Butterfly, together with a 100m Individual Medley, with Team Freestyle relays to finish the evening.

It wasn’t all plain sailing for Harpurhey, as the team from Hough End had success by regaining the Freestyle Relay trophy in a time of 2:34.53, with COMAST in second on 2:38.80 and Harpurhey third in a time of 2:39.62.

The event is organised and officiated by volunteers from the City of Manchester Aquatics Swim Team, with swimmers from the senior squads providing the timekeeping.

COMAST Beacon Swimmers Tom Paine and Chloe Golding were on hand to present the trophies.

The next Rising Stars gala will take place on Saturday 23rd November 2019, see you all there!
