Rising Stars February 2020

Harpurhey Regain Rising Stars Trophy

Harpurhey made it back to the top with the team victory in the latest Rising Stars on February 1st, with main rivals Hough End having to settle for second place and Wythenshawe coming third.

The event took place at the Manchester Aquatic Centre with entrants from the Manchester Community Clubs of Broadway, Harpurhey, Wythenshawe, COMAST Hough End, COMAST Academy, Matt Walker Academy for disability swimmers and Raven Moss. It was also the second gala that we were joined by the Manchester & NW Disability Swimming Club.

The gala gives young swimmers a chance to participate in a competitive environment often for the first time. Swimmers from these galas have now progressed and gone on to compete in the COMAST Non-National and Snow’Pen galas.

Over 120 swimmers competed in the gala with the individual events including 50m of Freestyle, Backstroke and Butterfly, together with a 100m Individual Medley, with Team Freestyle relays to finish the evening.

It was certainly a good night for Harpurhey, winning both relays as well, the first time a “Treble” has been achieved.

The event is organised and officiated by volunteers from the City of Manchester Aquatics Swim Team, with swimmers from the senior squads providing the timekeeping.

COMAST Beacon Swimmer Denisa-Elena Gogu was on hand to present the trophies.

The next Rising Stars gala will take place on Saturday 6th June 2020, see you all there!
